Gentle Osteopathic Care for You and Yours

Thursday, 10th November 2011 - comments (0) Comment

Angela Stevenson is opening a new pregnancy and baby care service in Bath. Angela is an experienced osteopath, having been in practice for 28 years, and specialises in a gentle osteopathic approach to balance stress and strain during pregnancy and after birth for both mother and baby.

Introducing her osteopathic service, Angela says ‘Pregnancy is a unique and special time in a woman’s life when her body will have to change, adapt to and support the baby growing within her. Osteopathy can help ease those changes, detect where possible mechanical problems may occur and offer ongoing care as the pregnancy develops right up to the time just before delivery. It is then my joy to be able to provide osteopathic assessment of the newborn baby especially if there has been a difficult birth process. There is something special about the continuity of care for the Mum and her baby together through this time in their lives.’

Angela chooses to use the gentlest of osteopathic techniques when treating expecting mums and babies. Cranial technique involves a light touch in areas of tension and inbalance. Patients feel particularly relaxed during treatment and may become sleepy afterwards. Whilst recommending that patients should follow their doctor and health visitors advice both pre and post natal, Angela wants to let mothers know of her distinctive support service.

Osteopathic treatment is based on the findings of the osteopath at the initial consultation and is adapted at each session as the body incorporates changes. Therefore it is not appropriate to list conditions osteopathy can treat during pregnancy or for babies but I would emphasise that treatment is tailored for the individual. ‘

Angela trained at the British School of Osteopathy in London and has worked overseas for many years. Recently returned to the UK, she is registered with the General Council of Osteopaths and a member of the British Osteopathic Association. Osteopaths train for four years studying anatomy and musculoskeletal medicine. Cranial technique is studied at post graduate level. Angela has two children of her own and lives in Bath.
